Human Behavior in the Dog Park
Emergencies
- Use of the park is at your own risk. You are responsible for your own safety, that of your dog, and non-members you allow to enter the Park including canine caretakers.
- Do not give your key to anyone other than another member or canine caretaker authorized to be in the Park by having a signed CADP waiver on file. This rule is for the safety of members and their dogs.
- All rules and posted Dog Park signs are important. Please adhere to the rules especially the Park hours of operation.
- Show respect for the neighbors and surrounding properties as you access and use the Dog Park. Excessive dog barking is the most common complaint we have received.
- The Dog Park has promised Renaissance Nursing Home and the neighbors that we will pick up the trash outside the park on Chester Ave and along 48th Street. Do your part. If you see some trash, pick it up.
- Each of us is responsible for the success of the Park. If you see another member who is not following the Rules, it is your responsibility to remind the member.
- It’s always best for people whose dogs have issues with each other to work out the issue amongst themselves first. If, after everyone has put in a good faith effort to resolve the issue, an agreement can not be reached between the two parties, then contact CADP's Intervention Team by filing an Incident Report.
Use of the Dog Park
- Per city ordinance, your dog must be on leash in public areas.
Bring your dog through the main gate on leash.
Keep your dog on leash until you and your dog are in the vestibule and you have secured the main gate. NEVER open the interior gate of the vestibule until the outer gate has been secured.
- Do not allow your dog to rush or crowd the gate. If a dog is coming in, call your dog away OR physically move your dog away from the gate. Entrance and the entryway are an especially volatile time and area. Fights can be prevented by adhering to this rule.
- Clean up after your dog immediately. Plastic bags for cleanup purposes are available in metal bins located in two locations in the Park. Bring bags to replenish the supply. If you see overlooked poop in the Park, clean it up!
- All dogs must wear a collar or harness at all times while in the Park. If you use a self-restraining type of prong or pinch collar on your dog, you must remove it and replace it with a buckle collar (strongly recommended) or semi-choke type collars upon entering the Park to avoid injury to dogs during play.
- Be sure both gates are securely latched upon exiting.
Dog Behavior in the Park
- Never leave your dog unattended. All dogs must be supervised and within your view at all times.
- Remember, the park is for the dogs to play and socialize. Human socializing is fine as long as it doesn't interfere with your interacting with and keeping a watchful eye on your dog. We recommend you call your dog to you from time to time and interact with him/her to maintain control. We also recommend that you get up and move around while you’re at the park, this will minimize a dog becoming territorial about a place that you may be sitting.
- If your dog behaves aggressively toward a human being in the Park, you must remove your dog.
- If your dog behaves aggressively toward another dog and the other owner is not ready to leave, the owner of the aggressor must leave the park to return at another time.
- If you are unable to quiet your dog's repeated barking, you must leave the park to return at another time.
- If the barking is “encouraged” by individuals outside the Park, please ask them respectfully to stop and move away.
- Cats are sometimes in the Park. Do not allow your dog to chase cats in the Park. If you see a cat, leash or hold your dog.
Human Behavior in the Dog Park
- The maximum number of dogs a member may bring into the Park at one time is three (3).
- Minors under sixteen years of age must be accompanied by a supervising adult whether or not the minor is in the Park with the family’s dog.
- Visitors are permitted in the Park only when accompanied by a CADP member. That CADP assumes all responsibility for the visitor.
- Member dogs are the only dogs permitted within the Park.
- Dog walkers & pet sitters who have signed the waiver are the only alternate caretakers permitted to bring member dogs into the Park. Members, please ensure that your dog walker or caretaker knows the CADP Rules, which, if any, dogs with whom your dog has issues, and any arrangements you may have with other members.
- If you smoke, provide your own ashtray/cigarette, ensure that all flammable material is completely extinguished, and dispose of properly.
- If you groom your dog in the Park, place discarded hair in the trash cans.
- Loud conversation and exuberant laughing, like barking, could disturb neighbors. Keep your volume moderate unless it is necessary to increase it in order to control your dog.
- Toys and water bowls provided by CADP members is for general use and must be left in the Park. If your dog is resource possessive/aggressive about toys, monitor their play closely and/or remove the toy as needed. Toys left in the Park are donations. Please place toys in the bins before leaving.
- Keep human food outside the Park! Tasty, mouth-watering human food is an overwhelming trigger for many dogs. Drinks are okay!
Emergencies
- Emergency telephone numbers for medical emergencies are posted in the Park.
- Renaissance Nursing Home allows CADP members to call for police, fire, and medical emergency assistance.
- When more than one CADP member is in the Park during the emergency, one person should call while the other(s) remain in the Park to supervise the dogs.
- Members with cell phones are encouraged to carry them in the Park especially if there is the possibility that they will be in the Park alone with their dogs.
